Metalcakes is a blog you need to follow ASAP. It’s the preeminent website which brings together the worlds of ‘metal’ and ‘cupcakes’ with delicious results.
In short, recipes are posted for cupcakes which base the theme and flavor of the cupcake around a selected band, sometimes even down to a specific song. It might sound difficult to capture a band’s essence in a cupcake, but detailed ingredients and (merciless) instructions do so while providing treats that are quite fun and tasty. For example: Baroness is immortalized with ‘The Sweetest Curse Cakes’, Watain is represented with a flourless treat in ‘Sworn To The Cake’, and to coincide with Nile’s Egyptian influences ‘Black Sweets Of Vengeance’ utilizes the most popular fruit of Egypt: dates. Similarly, many other recipes take into consideration a band’s background and musical/lyrical themes.
With such attention to detail, we put our heads together for a bit of a collaboration; one to help make any baking experience that much better (in particular for cupcakes). We’ve been presented a Metalcakes playlist to accompany you in the kitchen – and it is amazing! In exchange, we’ve taken up the challenge to “veganize” a recipe from one of Metalcakes past creations. We were tasked with Pelican‘s ‘The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Cupcake‘ and produced a delicious treat along with a playlist of some of our favorite heavy instrumental songs to go with it. Check them both out at Metalcakes website HERE.
Cryogenic Husk #21 – Metalcakes
1) The Secret - Cross Builder 2) Slayer - Criminally Insane 3) Autopsy - Bonesaw 4) Metallica - Last Caress/Green Hell 5) Boris - Furi 6) Blutch - Moving Ground 7) The Atlas Moth - Our Sun, Our Savior 8) Nile - Churning the Maelstrom 9) Weedeater - Potbelly 10) The Damned - Neat Neat Neat
Music is so many things for me. It’s my best friend, my inspiration, and my favorite escape. My main goal with Metalcakes is to honor and thank the various artists that have provided me with these things. I’m pretty good at baking (in my humble opinion), so it’s my medium of choice. Compared to the hours of escape a band has given me with their music, a batch of cupcakes seems like the very least I can do. The following is a list of metal songs (and one punk song) that I feel best represent each individual basic baking step, from beginning to end.
Enjoy!
1.Pre-heating the oven and gathering constituents
The Secret - Cross Builder
The opening song to their album Solve et Coagula builds in intensity as your oven increases in heat and your various constituents come together for a greater purpose.
2.Sifting the flour
Slayer - Criminally Insane
If you told me that the beginning of this song wasn’t inspired by flour being sifted, I’d be shocked.
3.Beating the butter and sugar
Autopsy - Bonesaw
An excellent instrumental thrash soundtrack to whipping your butter and sugar into something more suitable.
4.Adding the eggs
Metallica - Last Caress/Green Hell
“I’ve got something to say! I killed your baby (chickens) today!”
5.Adding the sifted flour
Boris - Furi
Perfect joyous pace for combining everything together into the ultimate batter, without forgetting to stop the machine and scrape down the sides of your bowl.
6.BAKE!
Blutch - Moving Ground
The opening screams are definitely indicative of shoving someone or something into an oven. The last 24 seconds also capture the nervous anticipation of the toothpick done-ness test.
7.Cooling your cakes
The Atlas Moth - Our Sun, Our Savior
This tune starts off by encouraging you to drift off while patiently waiting for your cakes to cool, then it slowly builds in intensity as your hunger grows.
8.Beating the Frosting
Nile - Churning the Maelstrom
Again, another song with an excellent pace for beating.
9.Frosting your cakes
Weedeater - Potbelly
You don’t have to read to be able to frost cupcakes. The slow steady pace of this song is all you need for precise frosting.
10.Consume
The Damned - Neat Neat Neat
It’s the closest I could get to “Nom Nom Nom.” Plus it’s a great song, and everyone loves The Damned.

Such a brutal idea, I love cupcakes. Reminds me of vegan black metal chef.
